Miscellaneous

With the States having approved the MARPOL (Marine Pollution) regulations recently, it is strongly recommended that all boats either fit bilge water filters or put a couple of oil soak-up ‘sausages’ in their bilges to make sure they are not discharging oil with their bilge water.

Please remember that no dinghies should be tied to railings on the pier, as this causes a hazard for other users.  Any remaining will be removed and impounded.

If you have not yet renewed your membership subscription, please do so without further delay.

We have a good stock of GBOA rugby shirts in all sizes, priced at £25 and pennants at £10.  Please contact Craig Leach, on 854695, at faramus@yahoo.com or see the Merchandise page

Carteret Sandbank

Picture
Dear member, If you visit Carteret, please note the following from a member recently returned – but thankfully not beached. Regards, Chris ParlettThere is a new sandbank just to the east of the red beacon at the entrance to Carteret. It was awash yesterday when we left the marina as it opened. Boats arriving / leaving at about marina opening / closing times would be at risk of grounding. Boats arriving when other vessels are leaving would be especially likely to pass close by the bank. The short sand bar that ran NE from the red beacon last September has disappeared. It had encouraged vessels to keep east which would now put them nearby the new bank.     Note: Chartlet is approximate. Click on image for full size

Update from Jean-Marc Hebert.
We start removing the sand bank thursday 4th April. It should be cleared completely on the middle of the following week. During the time of the works I recommand that boats entering Carteret use the red beacon side of the fairway which is deep already.
See you soon.

Portbail Sandbank

Please see reply from PortBail's Harbourmaster to a question about the sandbank in the entrance to Portbail.

"Yes the sand bar is coming back!!! For three weeks, it will be leaved for the fist of may. If you come try to arrive at the top of the tide or the long of the peer or in front of the first boat line... See you soon...

Cordialement
Jean-Marc GAULTIER"
